Future of UK Manufacturing

Last week was a very busy week in the House. I was pleased that the Backbench Business Committee of MPs agree to my recommendation of a debate on the Future of UK Manufacturing. I used the debate to argue there should be a dedicated government minister for manufacturing to boost British industry.

Such a minister would genuinely provide a co-ordinated response to concerns of the manufacturing businesses and would send out a statement that this really matters. Manufacturing should be at the heart of any long-term plan for economic growth. It is a sleeping giant which, if revived, would become the backbone of a strong UK economy.
